Intermediate Rhythm Guitar
This intermediate rhythm guitar course builds on the foundation of the classic boom-chuck to help you create more dynamic and engaging rhythm parts. We’ll add new building blocks to develop more complex rhythm patterns you can confidently incorporate into your playing. Topics include bass runs, walk-ups and walk-downs, and a variety of rhythmic fills that add drive and interest without getting in the way.
You’ll also learn how to apply these techniques in real musical settings—accentuating soloists, locking in with the bass, and supporting the overall sound of a jam or band. Emphasis will be placed on listening, timing, and choosing the right rhythm part to best serve the song. It will be a fun and focused week designed to push your rhythm playing forward and take your bluegrass guitar to the next level.
Logan Sarchfield
After moving to Edmonton, Alberta from Sussex, New Brunswick in 2005, Logan quickly became immersed in the city’s vibrant bluegrass scene. A guitarist from his earliest days, his obsession with the instrument began as a toddler and has never waned. Working at a music store throughout high school only deepened his knowledge, skill, and passion for guitars and music.
For the past 20 years, Logan has been a member of the Bix Mix Boys, performing extensively across western Canada. Beyond the stage, Logan’s dedication to the craft extends to the workbench—he builds and repairs guitars at his shop in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, combining a lifetime of playing experience with hands-on luthiery.
