Elevate your playing and confidently navigate the entire fretboard in this intensive, "hands-on" advanced workshop. Focus on moving up the neck for both soloing and backup, utilizing proven exercises to improve your knowledge of the banjo neck. Explore techniques and strategies for "spicing up" your playing with more melodic movement while always emphasizing the core melody. Incorporate new patterns and licks into your repertoire by applying them directly to bluegrass standards during class for immediate practical use. The class will also cover tips and exercises for refining both left and right-hand technique. Written materials will be provided, and participants will spend significant time playing through the materials together.
Jeff Scroggins
Jeff Scroggins is an internationally recognized master of the 5-string banjo. Jeff grew up in rural Oklahoma in the US, where he studied with banjo legend Alan Munde. He has won dozens of banjo contests, including the prestigious National Bluegrass Banjo Championship. He has performed and recorded with some of the top names in bluegrass and has toured extensively, taking his fiery style to stages around the world. His band, Jeff Scroggins & Colorado, was a 2018 nominee for the Emerging Artist of the Year award by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).
Jeff is also an internationally acclaimed teacher who has taught private and group lessons for over 35 years, including 5 years at the award winning Swallow Hill Music Association in Denver, Colorado. He has taught countless workshops worldwide at music festivals at which he has performed, and he has been an instructor at numerous music camps in the US, Canada, and Europe. After a decade of headlining festivals around the world, Jeff’s road eventually led him to a cabin in the quiet beauty of the mountains near Hope, BC, where he and his wife Liz Bader currently reside.
