Chris Quinn

Chris Quinn has become one of the most sought after banjo players in the country. As a banjo player and teacher, he is known for his drive, taste, and creativity. His journey in bluegrass began at the age of 7 when he heard the Flatt and Scruggs ""Live at Carnegie Hall"" LP. Largely self-taught, Chris learned to play banjo by listening to that record at half speed. He has been a big listener to bluegrass and lots of other music ever since.

In addition to many recordings as a sideman, Chris has been the banjo player for such groups as Heartbreak Hill, The Hit Pickers, and The Foggy Hogtown Boys.

As well as a being an award winning performer, Chris has taught at bluegrass camps all over the world. If you are from Canada, particularly Ontario, and you play the banjo, Chris might have been your teacher at one point or another. Former students include such 5 string players as Luke Puckrin, Chris Coole, and Frank Evans. A frequent teacher of bluegrass history, Chris Quinn has a solid knowledge of the music, bands, recordings, architects, and banjo.

“Talented banjo player, eloquent communicator, in demand for private lessons and workshop instructor. Knowledgeable bearer of tradition, bluegrass master, pivotal band member. Knows how to make vocals sparkle.""

Chris Quinn has the soul of a poet, the informed perspective of a historian, plus impeccable musical taste. Add a rapier wit and you have a potent combination, to say the least.” ~ Doug Benson 2019

“Anyone needing a clinic in taste and timing, pay heed.” ~ William Montague, Banjo Newsletter 2008.
