Navigating the Bass-ics: Simple, Creative, Fun

Simple and creative ways to develop your bass playing.

We will go over different types of warmups and techniques to stay loose and reduce the risk of injury. Throughout the class we will talk about right and left hand techniques, including fingerings of the left hand and using both pizzicato and arco in the right hand. As the class continues, we will discuss the general roll the bass plays in a band and how bass players can facilitate a full background for other instrumentalists.

Ben Ticknor

After switching from cello to upright bass in 8th grade, Ben Ticknor went on to earn a degree of music performance from Portland State University. It was during that time he started playing in bluegrass bands in Portland, OR, He eventually met Joe Suskind and Brian Alley, a friendship that led to him playing in Never Come Down. Ben is also the principal bass player with the Oregon East Symphony and an avalanche forecaster and professional ski patroller for Mt. Hood Meadows ski area.
