In this Intermediate Flatpicking Guitar workshop we'll get into the techniques involved in building solos such as blues licks, positions up the neck, crosspicking and how to use scales. We'll also get into some of the aspects of good rhythm. Bass runs, capo options and finding space. And of course we'll hit a few fiddle tunes along the way loaded with different challenges to tackle.

Barry Southern is a born and raised Liverpudlian from a musical family who began playing guitar at age 11. After starting out playing British folk music he played in a couple of Liverpools finest rock and roll bands and also took up banjo and fiddle and got into American folk music. He played in Bluegrass and Old Time bands in the U.K. scene and toured around Europe and was eventually drawn to the US where he now works as a touring musician and music teacher in Astoria, Oregon.  Barry is here this week with his wife and musical partner (also an instructor), Gabrielle Macrae. Together they perform as The Horsenecks.
